Information Commissioner examines how child-focused websites and apps handle young users' personal data

The Isle of Man has taken part in an international investigation into how children's personal data is collected and protected online.

The Information Commissioner’s Office joined more than 30 data protection authorities for the 2025 Global Privacy Enforcement Network sweep.

Regulators assessed whether popular child-focused websites and apps collect young users' data, explain their privacy practices clearly, use effective age-assurance tools, and limit the information they gather.

The sweep is being coordinated by authorities in Canada, the UK and Guernsey.

Isle of Man Information Commissioner Dr Alexandra Delaney-Bhattacharya said: "The Island’s children deserve to explore and enjoy the digital world safely.

"By participating in this year’s Global Privacy Enforcement Network sweep, we’re reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that online services respect children’s privacy, are transparent about their data practices, and put the best interests of young users first."
