'It would be a massive plus for the Island'

Did the Treasury Minister hint at reinstating railways?

The Island's Heritage Transport Festival got underway yesterday (25 July), with many revelling in the memories of a bygone national treasure.

For the first time in fifty years - since 1968 - a locomotive was showcased on the northern line.

Government's SAVE programme states that: "Infrastructure is committed to ensuring the railways are fit for purpose, and value for money".

It also acknowledges they are "a key part of the Island's visitor economy".

Speaking on Manx Radio at the old station building, Treasury Minister Alf Cannan showed a sentimental side, saying he can see the benefit of having a network of railways:
