42-year-old was on suspended sentence at the time
A Douglas man who put a bouncer in a ‘choke hold’ after getting the wrong end of the stick has been jailed.
Aaron Lee Kelly, of Greeba Road, launched himself at the doorman - at 2.30am on 27 August - after seeing him escorting another patron from 1886 Bar and Grill.
The 42-year-old, who had been asked to leave the venue two hours earlier, took the security worker to the floor causing pain to his back, a scratch to his head and a swollen lower lip.
Kelly, who later admitted common assault, told him: “You door staff think you can do whatever you want.”
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Kelly’s advocate said his client mistakenly believed the bouncer was using excessive force and he accepted he should not have grabbed him as he did.
He added that Kelly, who was on a suspended sentence at the time of the offence, had made some ‘incredibly poor decisions’ during times of stress adding: “In alcohol, in drink, Mr Kelly has done something stupid again.”
Jailing Kelly for 22 weeks High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also imposed a 12-month licensing ban telling him: “You do have a problem with alcohol.”
