January the driest in over 20 years

Just three days with sleet or snow recorded

Rainfall last month (Jan) was less than half the long-term average, making it the driest January in over 20 years.

Rainfall for January 2019 totalled just 37.9mm, the lowest since January 1997. The wettest day was the 26th when 10.7mm was recorded.

The mean temperature for the month was 6.4 C, a little above average with temperatures in double figures in the first half of the month. The last day of the month was the coldest - with a maximum of just 3.6 C.

There was only one day of gales and sunshine was around average for the month.

Sleet or snow was recorded on 3 days and there were 10 days of ground frost.
