Politician suggests Isle of Man should follow suit

The politician behind Jersey's climate emergency declaration says the move is about 'taking action' and not gesture politics.

Deputy Rob Ward of the centre-left Reform Jersey party, had his proposition approved 40 votes to one last week.

It committed the island nation to look at how it could become carbon neutral by 2030.

Mr Ward says it reflects the growing awareness around the world of the 'genuine threat' of climate change:

Elsewhere, Westminster became the first parliament in the world to declare an environmental and climate emergency after a motion from Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
