JSA claimants informed of changes

Reductions of up to 40 per cent among changes to Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)

A government officer says changes to Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) won't affect support the unemployed receive from the state.

Incremental reductions of up to 40 per cent for people who have been signing on for more than a year are among a raft of cuts to JSA.

Treasury claims the move will encourage more people into work when they come into force on November 1.

Director of Social Security Ross Stephens says the situation is better here than in neighbouring jurisdictions.
