Jurby ruled out as location for possible factory wind turbines

Proposals for a mini wind farm in the north of the Island to power a new factory look unlikely to get off the ground - because Jurby has been ruled out as a location.

Economic Development minister John Shimmin says onshore wind turbines cannot be sited at Jurby airfield because it's been earmarked for future aviation developments.

He told the Keys Prowind UK wants to manufacture wind turbines in the Isle of Man - but only if the plant can be powered by renewable energy.

The company is now exploring other options.

It has yet to lodge a planning application.

At the same time Prowind is holding a jobs fair in Douglas.

Mr Shimmin says that has raised hopes too soon:

A public meeting called by Michael MHK Alf Cannan to discuss the Prowind proposals is going ahead at Jurby parish hall tonight as planned, at 7.30pm.
