Ex-racers and enthusiasts taken back to 1971

A former sidecar racer says an exhibition of photographs from the 1971 TT brought memories of the event flooding back.

TT enthusiasts, ex-competitors and community figures congregated at Green's cafe in St John's this afternoon (Tue 29), to mark the opening of the Chris Killip exhibition.

Amongst them was Ernie Leece, who finished the three-lap 1971 sidecar TT in one hour, 49 minutes - at an average speed of 67.04 miles per hour.

His passenger was John Molyneux, father of another sidecar racer, who would go on to even greater TT heroics.
