PO Chair and Treasury Minister's comments criticised by CWU
The Deputy General Secretary Postal for the CWU, Terry Pullinger says public contributions yesterday (Thurs 14th) by the Treasury Minister and the Post Office Chair Julie Edge, made matters worse and demonstrated that the real decision makers are not in the negotiating room.
Ms Edge stated that the CWU hadn't proposed a realistic working alternative to what was on the table, whilst Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan warned that striking workers could be drawn into a "trap" - being influenced by larger political issues in the UK, rather than concentrating on a deal that was good for the Island.
He adds that his members anger and resolve has increased as a consequence, but adds, "we have balanced that with the excellent support we have received from the public and after today will take no further action before Christmas."
Mr Pullinger says he hopes this will allow some common sense to prevail between now and the new year. If not then further action will take place in 2019.
