Landmark day for Beach Buddies

Local Commissioners sponsors bin scheme

It's a landmark day for Beach Buddies today (Sun 27/09)

Maughold Commissioners are to become the first local authority on the Island to sponsor special “Big Beach Bins" provided by Beach Buddies at both Port Lewaigue and Port Mooar, with a smaller one also at Port Cornaa.

The official hand-over of the bins will take place during this morning’s beach cleaning event at Port Mooar when representatives of the Commissioners will be in attendance.

Beach Buddies has been providing bins at access points to beaches across the Island for the last twelve months, using a unique system of providing bags for members of the public to “Fill and Bag and Make a Difference”.

More bins are on order, and the charity intends to reach its target of 50 bins at access points to all of the Island’s beaches within the next year. The charity also intends to provide bins at access points to places like glens, plantations and the coastal footpath.

This morning's cleaning session gets underway at 10.30am at Port Mooar and as usual all are welcome.
