Neglected trees could lead to fines of of thousands of pounds
The Department of Infrastructure has launched a campaign reminding landowners of their responsibilities to maintain trees bordering highways and public rights of way.
Officials warn that neglected or overgrown trees can create safety risks by obstructing roads, damaging infrastructure, or blocking signs and lights.
Landowners are advised to keep branches trimmed, remove dead or diseased trees, and ensure insurance covers tree-related risks.
Where problems are not addressed, the Department can issue fines of up to £5,000 and recover costs if work has to be carried out on a landowner’s behalf.
