LegCo approves LegCo bill!

MLCs back changes to upper house elections

A bill which aims to simplify the way people are elected to the Legislative Council has been supported in the upper house.

It went through all its stages without amendment at a special sitting of the Council.

All seven members present voted in favour of removing the current system where candidates must receive a minimum of 13 out of 24 votes to be elected.

A House of Keys standing orders committee is consulting all Tynwald members about what form the new process should take.
