'Let's avoid another winter without a shelter'

Calls for homelessness provision at public meeting 

A public meeting was held in Douglas last night (29 June) to discuss the lack of an available night shelter on the Island.

It follows calls for a new facility to be established, after homeless charity Graih stopped providing its nightly accommodation in September last year.

'They're not on the streets, like they are in some of the big cities in the UK, and that makes it very easy to ignore or pretend it's not happening.' - Cat Jenkins.

Cat Jenkins is behind this latest campaign, and says we can't face another cold winter without a shelter in place.

But there are questions over where such a facility could be:

A follow-up meeting is scheduled to take place in early August. Exact time and place will be confirmed in due course.
