Lifeboat launched after RNLI open day

The lifeboat crew in Port Erin was called out yesterday to help a kayaker in difficulty, at the end of the RNLI station's annual open day.

The Atlantic 85 lifeboat had just been re-housed after completing displays in the bay when the volunteer crew was paged at around 4.30pm after reports of a kayaker in trouble below Bradda paths.

The man who had capsized, was found a few minutes later suffering the effects of cold water immersion.

He had been helped onto the rocks by walkers on the coastal path but was transferred onto the lifeboat where he was given first aid.

The crew took the man back to Port Erin jetty where he was treated by paramedics.
