Liverpool ferry terminal cost rises to £70million

Tynwald will be asked to approve further spending this month

Completing the new Liverpool ferry terminal is now expected to cost more than £70million.

Tynwald members will be asked to increase spending on the initiative at the court's December sitting.

If approved it would see an additional £32.6million of spending added to complete it - taking the total to just over £70.6million.

Once finished the new facility is aiming to accommodate up to 1000 passengers and 200 checked-in vehicles.

It's also aimed at being able to welcome the new Manxman Steam Packet vessel which is currently due to be completed in 2023.

Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall says the decision in July to postpone a vote on extra funding placed responsibility for delivery squarely with the new administration.

He adds this new motion is intended to ensure this important strategic project is delivered for the people of the Isle of Man.

Finally he says, should the extra money be secured, they'll be aiming to have the terminal finished by the middle of 2023.
