Liverpool landing stage to stay for now

Pier Head facility's life extended to 2019

Ferry passengers will be able to use the existing landing stage in Liverpool for an additional three years, after the Steam Packet agreed to extend its lifespan.

The facility at Pier Head was set to 'expire' at the end of 2016.

Refurbishment costs totalling £540,000 will be met by the Steam Packet - but bosses have confirmed this will not be passed on to customers.

Site assessments are ongoing for a proposed new ferry terminal, to be built half a mile away, and funded by the Department of Infrastructure.

But Steam Packet Chief Executive Mark Woodward says in the meantime, the current site will have to continue:
