Boards together wield £60m budget
The member of the House of Keys with political responsibility for local authorities says it’s extremely important for people to get involved.
Chris Thomas says earlier this year, the Department of Infrastructure sent out leaflets across the Island to explain what councillors and commissioners do and how boards work.
He says voters seem to treat local elections less seriously than national ones, with an average turnout of just 30 per cent.
Speaking on Manx Radio's election night results and analysis programme, Mr Thomas said our local politicians do a crucial job:
Sick leave in public sector cost £44 million over three years
Sideboard made by internee craftsmen returns to Knockaloe
Walkers raise money for charity with 300km challenge
