Lockdown is what regular life is like for many elderly people - Southern Befrienders

Charity hopes pandemic can highlight struggles for older generations

Lockdown has been an insight into how many older people on the Island live day-to-day, pandemic or not.

That's according to local charity, Southern Befrienders, which strives to battle the affects of loneliness and isolation in older generations.

Like many others, the organisation has had to adapt its services throughout the pandemic, adopting different ways to offer people company, through things like pen-pal schemes and phone-a-friend initiatives.

Social Events Coordinator for the Southern Befrienders, Mandy Karsa, says she hopes lockdown can help more people understand what many elderly locals go through in regular life:
