Lonan man indecently assaulted teenage girl

35-year-old approached 16-year-old on her way to work

A court's heard a teenage girl is still afraid to go out alone, a year after a Lonan man indecently assaulted her in a Douglas lane.

Thirty-five-year-old Nicholas Derek Jones of All Saints Park appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of indecent assault and possessing magic mushrooms on 17 October last year.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Caroon told the court the 16 year old girl was on her way to work at 8.45am when Jones approached her from behind.

The court heard self-employed Jones put his arms around the girl’s neck and groped her breasts, making a lewd remark about them.

She was left terrified by the incident and called police, who found the mushrooms when they searched Jones’s home.

After hearing Jones had been convicted of indecent behaviour in 2018, Mrs Hughes ordered him to carry out 200 hours of community service.

He was also ordered to pay £300 towards prosecution costs and £500 compensation to his victim, as well as spending twelve months on the Island’s sex offenders’ register.
