Lord Sewel resigns

Tynwald Day guest leaves Lords

A guest of honour at this year’s Tynwald Day ceremony has resigned from the UK’s House of Lords, days after a newspaper claimed he’d taken drugs with prostitutes.

Lord Sewel, who visited the Island three weeks ago, was filmed discussing his trip with two women the Sun newspaper alleges he took cocaine with.

The former Peer, who spoke to school students during his stay in the Island, announced this morning he’s stepping down as a police investigation gets underway.

This morning, in a letter to the Clerk of the Parliaments, he apologised for any pain and embarrassment he’d caused.
