Malew freezes rates

New responsibilities' costs offset by efficiencies

A local authority in the south of the Island is the latest to announce it’ll be freezing its rates this year.

Malew Parish Commissioners have confirmed they will remain at 175 pence in the pound.

The board says it took responsibility for road sweeping, weed spraying and hedge cutting this year but managed to make efficiency savings.

Commissioners also say despite a slight rise in this year’s waste disposal costs, ratepayers won’t have to shoulder increasing burdens in future after the Department of Infrastructure scrapped an escalating price scale at the Braddan incincerator.
