Man accused of indecent assault in Douglas nightclub

Pleads not guilty to attacks

A 22-year-old Douglas man’s appeared in court accused of carrying out indecent assaults on women inside a nightclub.

Joe Yeardsley of the Isle of Man Prison appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

He pleaded not guilty to indecently assaulting two women at the Outback in Barrack Street in Douglas on 26 August.

The court heard he’d known both of his victims, and got into a fight with one of their boyfriends after the alleged incidents.

Prosecution advocate James Robinson said Mr Yeardsley demanded a kiss and grabbed one woman by the neck when she refused, kissing her on the lips.

A short time later he gripped another woman tightly to prevent her moving away as he touched her groin through her clothing.

The woman spoke to police outside the club and when Mr Yeardsley was arrested he denied attacking either – instead claiming he’d been the victim of an assault.

There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear again on 25 June.
