Man caught with nearly £20,000 of cannabis

28-year-old pleads guilty to possession

A Ramsey man, accused of having almost £20,000-worth of cannabis sent to him through the post, has appeared in court.

Twenty-eight-year-old Michael Anthony Brown of Bircham Avenue Close appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He's pleaded not guilty to attempting to possess the class B drugs with intent to supply and being concerned in its production.

Brown pleaded guilty to possessing the drug.

Prosecution advocate Chrissie Hunt told the hearing postal workers in Ramsey called police on 13 February after a series of parcels were sent to Brown's address.

The latest was opened, and inside was 1.4 kilogrammes of cannabis worth more than £19,000 – they replaced the drugs with teabags and allowed it to be delivered.

Brown was arrested after accepting the package.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction, saying the case would be committed to a Court of General Gaol Delivery.

They bailed Brown in the sum of £500, and he'll next appear in court on 22 September.
