Man charged with breaking into Sure shop

CCTV showed him using tools to break inside

A man’s appeared in court charged with breaking into a mobile phone shop.

Christopher David Ward of Archallagan Terrace in Foxdale appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

The 29-year-old, who’s also known as Whorrall, denies burglary with intent to steal and going equipped to steal in Parliament Street in Ramsey on 10 December last year.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing Mr Ward’s car was found crashed on Barrule Road in Ramsey in the early hours of the morning – a taxi driver later told police he’d picked up a man called Chris nearby.

At 9am that day, a woman opening up the Sure shop in Ramsey discovered the building had been broken into, and CCTV showed a man using a toolkit to get inside.

After using an electric drill on a lock, they smashed a window to climb inside, spending just 42 seconds in the building.

The court heard the burglar had left before stealing any items.

Magistrates bailed Mr Ward in the sum of £500, and he’s next due to appear in court at a pre-trial review hearing on 17 December.
