Man had cannabis at bowling & snooker club

Magistrates hand 21-year-old £600 fine

A Douglas man’s been fined after being caught with cannabis at a bowling and snooker club.

Twenty-one-year-old Jack Cowells of Harris Terrace in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis on 26 June at the Finch Hill Bowling and Snooker Club.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the hearing police were on foot patrol when they noticed Cowells with a group of men.

Officers went to speak to the group, and noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

Cowells was searched, and officers found he was carrying 1.35 grammes of the drug worth £27.

During interview, he told police the drugs were his and were for his own personal use.

Magistrates fined him £600 and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £50.

Finch Hill Snooker and Bowling Club have asked us to make it clear that Cowells is not a member of the club and was not on the site at their invitation.
