Man jailed after attacking his sister

24-year-old punched woman in the face

A Douglas man has been sent to prison over a second attack on his own sister.

Twenty-four-year-old Charlton Gary Andrew Watterson of Empire Terrace appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm in a lane behind Derby Road in Douglas on 30 August.

Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the court Watterson and his sister had been drinking in Willaston before walking into Douglas.

Witnesses reported hearing an argument which quickly turned violent – Watterson punched the woman in the face, knocking her to the ground and leaving her with a cut on her head.

The court heard unemployed Watterson had overcome drug problems but had been drinking heavily.

Mr Kane said Watterson had a number of previous convictions for violence, including one for causing grievous bodily harm to his sister.

Mrs Hughes jailed Watterson for 20 weeks, and imposed a licensing ban which prevents him buying alcohol for a year.
