Man jailed for indecent assaults

Cleaner admitted offences

A Filipino man who pleaded guilty to three charges of indecent assault on a teenage girl has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Fifty-eight year old Edmondo Cataroja Mamis, of Balleigh Park, Ramsey, was working at a care home on the Island at the time of the assaults and his victim was a young woman he had been training.

Two of the assaults took place on the same day and one involved kissing the girl on an intimate area through her clothing.

The court heard Mamis had no previous convictions and was a well-respected member of the local Filipino community. He was very remorseful for his actions which were described as "a big mistake".

However, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said they were serious offences and whilst credit was given for an immediate guilty plea, only a custodial sentence would send the message that such behaviour was unacceptable.

Mamis was also put on the sex offenders register for seven years.
