Man pleads not guilty to breaking into local sports club

21-year-old accused of burgling the Manx Amateur Boxing Club

A man will appear in court next month accused of breaking into a Douglas boxing club.

Twenty-one-year-old Carl Shewring appeared via a live video link from the Isle of Man prison before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He's pleaded not guilty to burgling the Manx Amateur Boxing Club on Palace Road with another man, and using provoking behaviour.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon said Mr Shewring was living at the Department of Home Affairs facility Tromode House on 18 May.

In the early hours of the morning, he became extremely agitated, kicking a door and growing verbally abusive.

Miss Carroon said one member of staff called police after he raised his arm and she feared she was about to be attacked.

Mrs Hughes adjourned the case until a pre-trial review hearing takes place on 10 July.

Mr Shewring was bailed in the sum of £500 to live at an address on Peel Road in Douglas – he must obey a curfew between 9pm and 7am, and has been banned from contacting any witnesses in the proceedings.
