Man punched girlfriend in face after argument

Bail granted for Nicholas Stephen Brough

A St Patrick’s night celebration ended with a man punching his girlfriend in the face.

Sixty-one-year-old Nicholas Stephen Brough, of Westmoreland Road, appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse after admitting common assault.

Prosecution advocate, Roger Kane, said Brough had been out drinking in Douglas with his partner on 18 March, to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

They went back to a room in the Ellan Vannin Hotel on Loch Promenade and began arguing before Brough pushed her to the ground.

The court heard Brough tried to strangle her before punching her in the face twice, catching her in the temple and cheek.

Brough fled before police arrived and drove to Jurby Airfield – he was later arrested after he called police.

He was granted bail in the sum of £500 on condition he doesn’t go into Westmoreland Road or try to contact his former partner.

He’s due to appear for sentencing on 14 May.
