52-year-old pleads guilty to drink-driving
A court’s heard a Kewaigue man who crashed his pickup truck was twice over the limit after drinking wine and beer at a Christmas party.
Fifty-two-year-old Andrew Joseph Gray, of Ellenbrook Drive, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to drink-driving on the Old Castletown Road on 4 December.
Police were called to a crash on Leigh Terrace in the early hours but only found debris after the Mitsubishi truck left the scene.
Officers found the vehicle abandoned at the Kewaigue Dip and spotted Gray nearby.
He was arrested and testing equipment at Police Headquarters showed he was twice the legal alcohol limit.
During interview he told police he’d had a couple of pints, and up to three glasses of wine, at his work Christmas celebration in Douglas.
He was bailed, with a condition he doesn’t drive, and will be sentenced on 15 February.
