Number of boats allowed to fish now limited
Limiting the number of boats which can fish for king scallops in Manx territorial waters will ensure the Isle of Man has a profitable fishery ‘for many years to come’.
That’s the view of the Manx Fish Producers Association which has welcomed a new long-term management plan.
The king scallop season will start on Tuesday (1 November) - a maximum of 55 boats will be allowed to fish with more than half of those Manx vessels.
Dr David Beard is the association’s chairman – he says the change is the culmination of a long negotiating process:
Faulty device believed to have triggered multi-agency search effort
Payroll firm reprimanded after thousands of personal records discovered in abandoned shredding bins
Finish line in sight for Atlantic rowers
Further delays to Manxman sailings following weather disruption
