Chief Executive warns of likely longer waiting times in England as Island assesses potential knock-on effects
Manx Care says it is still assessing what impact the UK government’s decision to reduce spending on elective care in England could have on the Isle of Man.
Chief Executive Teresa Cope told the organisation’s board that while the full implications are not yet clear, she expects waiting times in England to increase as a result of the funding cut.
She says health providers are working through the likely effects, and it is important for the Island to understand how it could be affected.
Hospitals in England – known as tertiary providers – are contracted to carry out certain surgeries and treatments for Manx patients which cannot be delivered locally.
These include complex procedures requiring specialist facilities or expertise.
As part of Manx Care’s Operating Plan, efforts are ongoing to deliver more treatments on-Island and to repatriate patients back to the Isle of Man for ongoing care where appropriate.
