High school pupils salute Waterloo anniversary event

History students from the Isle of Man have been commemorating the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo in London.

Year 7 and 8 students from Ballakermeen and St Ninian's took part in a research project on the landmark battle, before attending a service at St Paul's Cathedral on Thursday (18 June).

They were there as part of the Waterloo 200 Schools programme learning about local connections to the battle.

Representatives from Isle of Man Stamps and Coins were also at the service, to support the schools and promote a special edition.

A delegation from the business is exhibiting at a huge event in Belgium, where a series of re-enactments are being held over four days (18-21 June).

Stamps and Coins' Battle of Waterloo 200th Anniversary collectable edition includes special folders, stamps and postmarks, capturing battle images from both sides.

After the service in London, Chris Cave spoke to Head of History at St Ninian's Andrew Wilkinson and Head Boy Peter Smith - but first Tom Reeney of Ballakermeen:
