Manx Gas terms pushed back to October Tynwald

Proposals for new agreement 'approved in principle'

The terms for a new agreement with Manx Gas will now be brought to Tynwald in October - after politicians come back from summer recess.

Policy and Reform Minister Ray Harmer asked colleagues to ‘approve in principle’ a series of proposals for a new agreement, based on negotiations with Manx Gas so far.

Twenty-four out of 31 members did so.

The old regulatory deal, allowing Manx Gas to make almost 10% profit, expired at the beginning of this year.

Having voted in favour of those proposals, parliament also agreed unanimously to the October deadline for heads of terms and related legislation.

Several members expressed concerns there were a number of important questions still left unanswered, including former policy and reform minister Chris Thomas who was previously in charge of the negotiations.
