Manx Lottery Trust donates £50K to addiction support charity

Support for gambling addiction is amongst the help Motiv8 offers

The Manx Lottery Trust has given £50,000 to addiction support charity Motiv8.

The charity assists those with substance and gambling addiction.

The grant will be used to train team members to become accredited CBT therapists and help those who are recovering to train as peer mentors.

Chief executive of the charity Thea Ozenturk explains why having success stories at the forefront of the road to recovery plays a significant role in the support they offer.

Manx Radio contacted the Manx Lottery Trust for interview on numerous occasions but the requests were declined.

Instead the trust provided the following statement:

"The Lottery is not considered as gambling because:

In a lottery, players compete against other players. A lottery's prize fund is set in advance and the lottery operator does not participate in the game. In gambling, players compete individually against the gambling operator. It is in the gambling operator's interest to win against the players."

Motiv8 says it shares a strong relationship with the Manx Lottery Trust and the money does give significant opportunities to enhance the help and support they can offer:
