Health agreement to share GP records signed
Manx university students who receive their first coronavirus vaccine on-Island can now get their second dose in the UK.
It follows concerns 17-18 year olds may run out of time to get both doses before returning for studies in September.
An agreement has been struck with the UK to share GP records, meaning students can get their jabs in either jurisdiction.
Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson says: "What’s really important is that students register with a GP practice wherever they are."
"Not only do we need this to see the medical record, but the vaccination programmes here and across draw from GP lists, and in the UK the GP might be giving the jab."
Over 18's have recently been invited to register for a vaccine as soon as possible, as anyone who hasn't received their first dose by 10 May could be subject to a two-month wait as the DHSC switches its focus to second doses.
Health Minister David Ashford urged students to get registered, as slots are available over the next couple of weeks.
Second doses will be administered 12 weeks after the initial jab, around late July/ early August.
As vaccination details are uploaded to personal medical records, government says receiving both doses will be 'invaluable' should so-called vaccine passports be introduced for foreign travel.
