Manx students stage walkout for action on 'climate crisis'

Striking young people demand urgency across the world

Students from the Island's schools took up strike action outside government buildings this afternoon, in an effort to raise awareness of the 'climate crisis'.

Over 150 pupils from all ages went to Prospect Hill to protest, walking out of their lessons to bring attention to the global issue.

Year 12 student Ciara Sowerby, who is one of the organisers of the protest, was delighted with the turnout calling it 'insane'.

"It's way bigger than I expected" said the Ballakermeen sixth former, "I was expecting 20 or 30 people, 50 at a push, but there's so many more people here than I was expecting."

It comes as 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, instigator of the worldwide movement #FridaysForFuture, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
