Charity offers safety advice for animals as Island prepares for racing fortnight
The ManxSPCA is encouraging pet owners to take extra precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their animals during the busy period.
The charity is advising owners to be mindful of hot weather by keeping pets hydrated and avoiding walks on hot surfaces that could burn their paws.
It’s also reminding residents to secure their properties to prevent pets from escaping onto busy roads.
Owners are being urged to check that their pet’s microchip details are up to date - a legal requirement for dogs - and to consider microchipping cats too.
The ManxSPCA is also recommending the use of secure harnesses and leads, noting that some animals may be startled by loud noises from the races.
Dog fields, which offer safe enclosed spaces for off-lead exercise, are being suggested as an alternative to walking dogs near crowds or barbecue areas.
The charity says simple preparations can go a long way in helping to keep pets safe during the TT fortnight.
