McDonald's affray couple fined

Security staff left with fractured nose

A couple who scuffled with security staff at McDonald's have been fined.

Twenty-five-year-old Craig Paul Murphy and 22-year-old Chelsea Leigh Morgan, both of Ballabrooie Drive, Douglas, had previously pleaded guilty to one charge of affray each.

The incident happened at the fast food outlet on Peel Road in Douglas at around 3.15am on September 27 last year.

The court heard the pair had got involved in a verbal altercation with the security staff, which escalated when Murphy tried to hit one of them.

Morgan lashed out at another one when she went outside to see what the altercation was about and tried to pull someone away from it.

Murphy scuffled with one of the security staff, a Jason Crowe, outside.

Mr Crowe was left with a fractured nose and bruising as a result.

Murphy's advocate said her client had been provoked by one of the bouncers calling his girlfriend and a friend of hers a derogatory name.

The court heard Murphy and Morgan's actions were completely out of character - neither had any previous convictions and both were extremely sorry for what they had done.

Murphy was fined £800, ordered to pay £300 compensation to Mr Crowe and prosecution costs of £50.

Morgan was fined £750, plus £50 costs.
