Meat Plant officially changes hands

Transfer complete by end of month

Management of the Island's Meat Plant has officially changed hands from the Fatstock Market Association to a government-run company.

On Thursday an agreement was signed by the FMA, handing over management of the loss-making facility to the newly created Isle of Man Meat Company Limited.

The transfer process will be formally completed by Friday 29 March.

An industry meeting is been held at Bemahague School next Tuesday (13) at 7pm to discuss the handover, and to outline a new buying policy, pricing structure and marketing campaign.

Chairman of the IOM Meat Company Tim Baker MHK has confirmed the promised injection £1 million from DEFA's budget to boost the plant will go ahead.

He says the next step is explaining to farmers how the site will be run
