'Mediterranean' proposal for Castletown

Commissioner would see Market Square pedestrianised

A Castletown commissioner would like to see the town's market square fully pedestrianised for the summer months.

Beth Cannan will present the proposal to her colleagues next Monday, in a public sitting.

In recent years, half of the square has become a be-deckchaired lawn where residents and visitors alike can relax, play games, and tinkle the ivories in the Manx summer weather; now, Mrs Cannan has a vision to expand and enhance the area, moving existing blue badge parking spaces into the town hall courtyard:

While opinions in the town are divided, MHKs for Arbory, Castletown and Malew, Tim Glover and Jason Moorhouse are united in the opinion that engagement and clarity will be the key components to the scheme's success:

Local business owner Ben, says he doesn't expect his restaurant to be negatively impacted, but can see why some have expressed concerns:
