Mental health waiting lists to be tackled using charity partnership

Children to receive psychological therapies from Mind Matters

Efforts to reduce the time people have to wait for therapy to tackle common mental health disorders on the Isle of Man have stepped up.

Manx Care is working in partnership with MCH Psychological Services to offer CBT and trauma based therapies for children and young people and adults.

It’s due to the existing demand on the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and Community Mental Health Service for Adults which means waiting lists have increased.

Around 140 children will be seen by MCH - the charity behind Mind Matters and Isle Listen - over the next 12 months.

Ross Bailey is Manx Care’s General Manager of Integrated Mental Health Services:

People who are eligible to be seen by the charity will be contacted by Manx Care.

The service will be free.

Andrea Chambers, chief executive of Minds Matter and Isle Listen, said: "We are delighted to be working closely with Manx Care on this programme to reduce waiting times.

"Our charity has long been aware of the difficulties faced by people trying to access mental health support, either for themselves or for their children.

"We understand that some people may feel nervous when seeking psychological support and we have worked extremely hard to make sure that any visit to our therapy suites, will be a positive experience that they will be happy to engage with."
