Merseysiders deny heroin charges

Two women remanded until later this month

Two women from Merseyside have appeared in court over an alleged plot to smuggle thousand of pounds worth of heroin into the Isle of Man.

Thirty-nine-year-old Jaine Elizabeth Beech of Hahnemann Road and 46-year-old Tracey Solan of Andrews Street appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

The duo, both from Walton in Liverpool, have pleaded not guilty to producing the class A drug to the Island and possessing it with intent to supply.

A previous hearing was told the duo were arrested at a house in Onchan on 16 January.

When police raided the house, they found two packages containing more than 150 grammes of heroin.

Neither applied for bail, and both defence advocates said their clients were content to be remanded in custody until their next court appearance.

Mrs Hughes adjourned the case, remanding both women to the Isle of Man Prison.

Miss Beech and Miss Solan will appear in court again on 31 March for a committal hearing.
