MHK asked to apologise after 'take care' tweet to convicted stalker

Tim Glover deletes social media post after backlash

An MHK is being asked to apologise after posting a tweet to a convicted stalker with the message 'please take care'.

In the now-deleted post Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover shared and commented on an article regarding the conviction of Courtenay Heading.

He was jailed this week for sending 'incessant emails and tweets' to the scientist who set up PCR testing on the Island during the Covid pandemic.

Tagging Mr Heading, he told him he'd noted his recent posts and would 'have his say on Abbotswood' - the care home where 20 residents died following a coronavirus outbreak.

Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson, in a statement to Manx Radio, says: 'I found his remarks insulting to all victims of stalking and harassment.'

'I do not believe his social media post made as an elected Member of Tynwald was in any way appropriate.

'I believe he should offer a full apology to Dr Glover who showed remarkable bravery and perseverance to bring this matter to court.'

In response, Mr Glover says: "I believe Dr Allinson has got hold of the wrong end of the stick."

"I also get inundated with messages from Mr Heading and his supporters and my tweet was aimed at them.

"Dr Glover has shown remarkable bravery in standing up to this type of stalking and I greatly admire her for doing so.

"I took my tweet down as it was generating the wrong sort of heat which I naively didn’t expect.

"There are questions regarding Abbotswood which will be raised during the forthcoming Tynwald debates."
