Follows plans to implement 20mph zone in PSM village
A Rushen MHK has claimed government’s ‘lack of focus’ on safety around a primary school in her constituency is ‘almost criminal’.
Michelle Haywood says Scoill Phurt le Moirrey, in Port St Mary, is one of the only schools without a 20mph speed limit surrounding it.
The Department of Infrastructure is looking at bringing in the limit in residential areas – including in the southern village - but under its plans the school area would remain at 30mph.
Dr Haywood told Manx Radio the wider village doesn’t need ‘signage or painted signs’ on the road:
Infrastructure Minister Chris Thomas says members of the DOI and Public Health have assessed the area around the school:
Mr Thomas' department has been asked to bring a report with recommendations on 20mph zones to June's sitting of Tynwald, or sooner.
