Organisation confirmed last night (24 Jun) services will cease in July

An MHK says he's 'extremely disappointed' at news that the Family Library will cease trading and close at the end of next month.

The organisation made the announcement on social media last night (25 June), saying all lending, which includes the mobile and delivery services, will cease on 18 July.

Reacting to the news, Rob Callister says he'd be keen to see what the Isle of Man Government will do to ensure some sort of service in the further areas of the community to ensure there is still interaction.

He added it's a topic he's spoken widely on during last month's Tynwald debate:

In an initial statement in May, directors of the service said the organisation had reached a point where it is losing £100,000 per year and is no longer tenable.

Last week, an amended motion was approved in Tynwald for government to work with the Family Library to assess its financial situation and bring options to the court in October this year with the aim of 'securing valuable community services.'

The Family Library directors add all events scheduled to take place at the venue will continue until the final closure date.
