MHK queries whether Island can speed up help for Ukrainians

Cabinet Office looking at linking with 'Reset' scheme

Government is investigating ‘linking services’ to match Ukrainian refugees with residents who can host them.

The Cabinet Office has confirmed it’s looking at whether the Island can join the UK scheme Reset which aims to connect sponsors and those in need.

More than 300 offers of host accommodation have been put forward since the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched in March.

Government has confirmed that 63 Ukrainians have been given permission to move to the Isle of Man through the family or sponsorship pathways.

But in the House of Keys this week Garff MHK Daphne Caine raised concerns that the Manx system was slow:

In response Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord-Brennan said whilst she was ‘hopeful’ of changes in future she would encourage people to continue to use voluntary and community avenues to find people who required help.
