Legislation may stop LegCo from voting
An MHK says he will support a bill which would stop the Legislative Council from voting for the chief minister.
Tomorrow (19 Dec) Chris Thomas MHK will table a motion for the Council of Minister's (Amendment) Bill 2016 to be laid before Tynwald next year for signature.
If successful, the legislation would mean only the House of Keys could vote to elect the leader of government.
It comes despite an on-going committee review of the election of the chief minister, based on some of the findings of the Lisvane report.
North Douglas member David Ashford says he's been disappointed with the committee recommendations to date, and wants to use this opportunity to push on with serious reform.
