MHK urges care home closure rethink

Ramsey facility due to close in October

The closure of a care home in Ramsey in October may be avoidable, so says an MHK in the north-west of the Island.

King’s Reach will shut its doors after its owners said there was low occupancy, difficulty recruiting and retaining staff and that significant investment was needed to bring the home up to modern standards.

Its 36 residents will be relocated to other facilities and consultation has started with staff.

However, Ayre and Michael MHK Tim Baker says the 50-bed facility is closing at a time when we’re told there’s a lack of nursing and residential care beds in the Island.
