MHK wants Tynwald to support motion on refugees

Joney Faragher wants CoMin to look at joining UK and Ireland schemes

A Douglas East MHK is asking the Council of Ministers to explore how the Island can take in refugees.

Joney Faragher says the UK and Ireland should be consulted as to how Manx Government could participate in their resettlement schemes.

He motion, placed on Tynwald’s Register of Business, wants Tynwald to agree to CoMin producing a report by the end of July.

As part of the preparation of that report she wants the ministers to seek evidence from the governments of the UK and Ireland about participation in their existing schemes.

Last week Chief Minister Alfred Cannan confirmed the Isle of Man was looking at how it could directly support Ukrainian refugees fleeing conflict in Ukraine.
